Roses Are Red; Death Is Dark

i.
a white rose. unspoiled, and innocent. luminescence shining through darkened times. every petal is unchanged from the day that the rose first bloomed. each shape, each angle - the same. desert winds could blow, and the petals would remain in the same position. soft to the touch, and sweet-smelling. unmoveable. unbreakable.

ii.
she was a happy and cheerful girl. even if you were sad - she'd try her best to cheer you up. she worked hard at all that she was given. she was an unwavering life force. there for you, no matter what. she remembered primary school, and whispered dreams with her friends. childish promises. "friends forever?" a pact. "friends forever."

iii.
a blood-red rose. black tipped petals, frayed edges. decaying slowly in the arid heat and bitter cold. wasting away ... unbeknownst to anyone. charred anger coiled deep within, waiting, waiting. always waiting. biding it's time, ready to spring forth and cut those that got in the way. darkness and turmoil embroil the rose, choking, suffocating, murdering.

iv.
she changed. there's no other way to put it. once a happy and cheerful girl, she became dull and listless. hair that once shined now hung limp and heavy around her shoulders. shining eyes that gleamed when they saw you now stared, devoid of the life force that used to be there.

no belief in the world. nothing to believe. innocence had been stolen.
twice. [by different people]

v.
i'm not the same as i used to be.
i'll never be the same again.

i'm learning this the hard way.
