In Their Own Way

What is it I see when I contemplate the reflection in the mirror;
hidden beneath the surface are the complexities of man an woman
generations of dreams filled with success and sacrifice
reality that came true by the love of One consummated by the two.

No prior warning was given no choice was ever offered I or me
sent by the Creator empowered to become something more like Him
but first I became me as the resemblance is much like the other two
some say I or me favored Dad more than Mom yet unknown was He.

Outwardly the chemistry is that of him when a child more prominent
inwardly my sensitivity is that of her when as an adult more prolific
he seldom had time to devote to those things I found dear to me
she was present with an encouraging word or guidance when needed.

Now that I or me has finally reached that point of understanding
he had the responsibilities of proving the essentials of life for each
she had the instincts of nurturing me to become who I am  today.
both gave an equal share of love now viewed by me or I… in their own way.

Author notes

The complexities and aspirations of so many others mixed within the image that stares back at the one looking into the mirror of life.

We are always going to have certain bits of us which is down to our parents but indivuality must come through. Great write.

Inspirational insight into the part our parents play through genes, example and nurturing to mold us into who we are...Such a loving original portrayal of who you are in the light of your mother and father...A very write, friend... All the best in the contest!

They all remain a part of us,yet we grow within our individualism that translates into who we become.
Your response tells me you have captured my message even though it is but a fraction of what a parent provides throughout their lives.
      Thank you my friend...

    Very profound Sam

I think as we raise our children we need to realize this,

we are always teaching always molding and shaping our love ones even when we are not aware of it.

throughout their life, our life's we are influenced by first our parents and also our experiences good and bad and every bit of it becomes apart of us.

you Sam had obviously wonderful, kind loving parents that created an amazing balance

it shows through this lovely write and through all of your writes

an equal share of love just as you give my friend

    God bless you...

A reflection of childhood brings various memories into play, but as you said their influences were first upon the impressional mind of my youth, fortified by maturity over time, and with the onset of parenthood itself the reality of experience has helped develope each of us.
May they find rest in God's presence as raising eight had to be tiring work...
