There was a time when we were young
We thought we knew it all
We'd run through clover, sometimes stung
But never would we bawl
For barefoot boys back then were tough
We never wore our shoes
All games we played were really rough
And blood just counting coups
On bikes we ranged out twenty miles
And seldom home by dark
We'd put our moms through endless trials
Their bite much less than bark
But times have changed much over years
The rough play is no more
Where just a "No!" can brings on tears
Fair play too much a chore
Now quick and fast no mind the cost
Does seem to be the way
Old lessons learned in past now lost
From tougher days of play
Where once majorities did rule
Now laws are for just one
What once was play is now too cruel
Old lessons learned undone
There will be change that soon will come
Idealists cannot last
You must decide and choose best ones
For votes you soon will cast
Our Nation is a tough old bird
It’s been through some harsh days
It’s nothing new I’m sure you’ve heard
Real effort truly pays

Are our brains running in the same direction or what?
My Death by Order was originally Death by O thinking along political lines.
If these youngsters only knew what is about to happen, ehy would be a tad whiny, the Emperor's new Clothes are becoming more transparent all the time,
God help us all.

Ahhh tis true tis true. We much work for what we have and be accountable for what we do.
I miss those days of riding my bicycle until dark, getting home fast when the curfew blew ...
Your rhyme is always spectacular. I love this. ~Pamela

Just getting around to answering you and others. Been a tough year.
Thanks for the read.

I agree
This needed to be said and I sure appreciate your writing this. The major problem is things are too easy for kids these days. Hard work never hurt anybody. Yes there are things that are indeed cruel, but you have to separate that from the things that teaches a child to grow and learn.

I think older tougher times teaches more. We are about there.
