Lacking

There is something that Ive noticed
About todays poetry,
The rhythm and metre are fine,
Not short on structure, in fact
Its pretty astringent these days-
When we're judged by our ability to
Stay within the lines to be good enough
To compete and win-
But there is something lacking within-
Something in the content
Rather than text,
And that is some objective wisdom-
The kind you find in grandma's kitchen,
Grandpa's rocking chair,
A quiet night,
A guide to sewing..
There's a calm gravity in the confidence
Of knowing something about something else
And not just about yourself
Or another person...
Tell me about the art of life,
And the ways of nature.
