he still wakes up to her kisses
to the soft ebony of her skin
he still wakes to the
full toned peach flavor
of her lips
still dreams of a smile
that left him naked,
still whispers to the cloud kissed moon of yesterdays
when her skin spoke
fluent passion
pressed against his
in flux and dance
on nights like these
his inside is the pale yellow
of broken street lights;
in the pause between broken heart beats
there is a faint melody
an orchestra of doleful violins
adrift in scattered moments--
"I love you" he says
wraps her legs around him
lightly presses her against the wall
she smiles
he kisses her
pink birthmark,
at the corner of her neck (a spot only he has tasted)
she stares at him,
blue steel eyes;
emotions exposed to
the soulful wind,
the fluid night air
her fingers trace a vein spiraling down his hand
nestles itself in his waiting palm
he listens to her breathe
she grasps him tight
"I know" she purrs...
"I know"
he still wakes to burnt memories
and on nights like this
he can never tell
the present from the past

beautiful, even in its sadness.

Wow... I don't even know what to say... This is so very well composed - the imagery is so tender in memory's detail, etched picture-perfect. Sadness aligned to the brim with emotion, tugging upon heart-strings... An amazing piece of thought here. Pained, and utterly beautiful. Wonderful write!!!
