Pride and what it stands for ((Formerly titled Nigger))

Skin as black as a raven,
dark like the chocolate
that melts on your tongue
hair woven into intricate braids
that tells a story.
I am not a nigger.

I am not a negro
I am not a negress
I am not a nigger.
I am not your 'girl'
I am not your 'boy'
treat me with respect.

Don't be scared of me
when I walk down the street,
don't lock your doors,
I won't rob you.
Don't whisper to your
children,
don't deny me because of my color.

I am not a nigger.
This word is hateful
this word is painful.
black pride,
fly the colors of
red, black and green.

Make Rosa Parks
Malcolm X
Sojourner Truth proud
I am not a nigger.

Fly the colors,
stand up, and shout...
I'm black and I'm proud!!!!!

I am not a nigger.

Author notes

Hope this works. I'm writing through writers block! This is more about the one side of it...rather than the interracial aspect of it...but I know where the interracial thing lies...I'm black and my entire family is white ( I'm adopted ) and I have issues with it...I prefer white men...and that sets me apart from the culture that I study and love...but I love who I love and the heart is stronger than the mind sometimes...

A contest entry

I really enjoyed your poem. I must admit I was a little apprehensive to read it because of title, because yes it is a hateful and painful word. Really powerful write. Thanks for entering . I wanted to give you 3 clappies, but I am currently out of points.
