Link in the Cable

Never forget,
They always said,

"That on the strength of one link in the cable,
Dependeth the might of the chain,
who knows when thou may'st be tested,
so live that thou bearest the strain."

I am one of many,
One of the long blue line,
Stretching back for generations,
A link in this cable of time.

I am the connector,
between the past and future,
A bridge for the thousands before me,
To reach out to those who will come.

I am Semper Paratus,
And I serve for you,
I serve for them,
and for our future too.

I am a guardian,
protector of the sea,
And never forget,
that I am watching over thee.

I am the link in the cable,
So now I must live my life,
So that no matter the hour of testing,
I can answer the call to fight.

    This, my friend really was a wonderful piece that said so much. I absolutely loved that 'Link in the cable' and how you wound the poem so wondrously around those words. Indeed, each link continues to add strength to the chain and those before and those that come after will always maintain the cord of life that looks over those at home. Such a great write that really speaks so loudly and proudly and so rightly so. It made me smile and feel pride for all of the terrific incredible people who give so much for others and their country. I cannot say enough about how much I care or feel but with each of these wonderful writes that are placed here, you all manage to speak for me as well. I thank you very much for your entry and wish you the very best in the contest.

            Not bad! Great job you have there. I know someone who joined the coastguard not long ago, after a stint in the army.
