Upon a winters night
When cold I lay sleeping
You kissed my eyes and cried
at bedside softly kneeling
You held my tiny ice cold hand
and smoothed my long, long hair
Then with what sounded like a sigh
you whispered in the air
'Too late! Too late! My angel's lost
My heart is broken through
My soul so wretched in me burns
for her piercing eyes of blue
What torture this to pine away
when beauty lies death still?
Oh what will now become of me?
What fate must I fulfill?'
Then taking ice cold waif in arms
You held me to your heart
and sang a ballad 'midst your tears
of how hope did depart
Then as the moon crossed by the clouds
you closed your eyes in pain
The lattice shivered in the wind
and softly fell the rain
And nothing soothed that empty ache
yet soon you knew you'd leave
Returning home with empty heart
alone to mourn and grieve
A long last kiss you took from me
a true love kiss that binds
and with that kiss my life ignites
and evil spell unwinds
The roses to my cheeks returned
the life blood warmth rushed through
And though you feared some madness here
You watched me breathe anew
Then all your bitter tears were joy
and all your sorrows slain
To see your love renewed to life
and hold her fast again.

This is very gorgeous indeed. I wish I could have done that to my deceased wife. Sounds weird but at the time I would have loved to done just that. A childs dream? Maybe not just a childs. You did this so awesome and with lovely flow. This really touched me. Keep on penning. Thank you for entering and good luck in my contest.

Thank you so much!
I'm glad you liked this one. I have a love of writing fantasy and story poetry and Sleeping Beauty was one that stayed with me since childhood. I love to try and portray the emotions as purely as I can. If I had spent longer on this I would've added more imagery and scene setting, but I was concentrating on the emotions. How touching to know that my poem evoked memories of your dear wife! This is the reward that a poet lives for, to touch a soul! Thank you so much for sharing that and for the lovely bronze cup, I am grateful you enjoyed my work as I enjoyed being invited into your fun contest.

So glad there's another dreamer out there like me! Sometimes it's good to take time out from this busy world, and renew yourself through fantasy. When you come back to reality, you value the little things in life more clearly again.
Again, thank you so much.
