It was while visiting a friend

that my wife first saw her,

the runt of a litter with

plenty of gumption

and a bite to my wife's little toe was

this Lilliputian feline's way of saying,

"Take me home, please."

Coddled, as if royalty, with want of nothing,

she basked in our attention for

just about seventeen years,

always showing her appreciation with

more feeling and affection

than some humans

we have known.

Author notes

Born sometime in October of 1992, she passed quietly in my wife's arms the evening of October the 19th 2009, after we decided to have her euthanized because of painful irreversible kidney disease, and yes, I cried.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had to leave my Sheebee in Australia I miss herrrr. I had a cat before that called Naja, but she just didn't come home one day, sighhh. My first cat I also had to put down after about 10 years - I wanted to be there when it happened but I couldn't do it, I was distraught, even though I was 18/19 by this point I've always had cats right up until now. Good preparation for my future life, no? HAHAHA! A wonderful poem though

oh isn't that a wonderful picture of a kitty... I love kitties. You wrote this one well. I know my favorite kitty is named scooby and she was found outside on a wood pile about oh 13-14 years ago at least. She is soooo spoiled. But really aren't we suppose to spoil our babies.

Thanks for sharing this one with us. You wrote it very well.

I'm so sorry, they do become a part of the family. I hope writing this poem helped ease the pain. I recently lost my dog and writing a poem for her helped me.

    Love,
    Amera♥

oh you poor thing. i know this experience first hand to lose a best friend of a cat. and to have her put down is such a horrible experience to witness.
she sounds extraordinary MJ and 17 years is a long long time to have a cat live with you. Man - shes almost as old as me!
