le freakshow..

i beg you
devour this illusion
like the slavegirl once devoured
the olive from my virgin navel as we
were circled by throngs of unlit faces
whose own tongues throbbed for more..
take this gift
as offering to a hungry soul
who might yet break the line
and bare all
despite the eager twitchings of her whip
and threat of loss to all you know..
knowledge is no easy mistress
as we who know know all too well,
so bring your deathmask
and your collar,
leave inhibition at the door..
what happens here will stay here,
but that itself is not so true..
for they will mark you with the brandings
of dark desires blackest hues..

step in..

  • Dark and colourful frenzy of words.
Mixed together like the filling of a rich pie.
Ready to be devoured hungrily by myself and other vultures.

Loving your avatar pic Ms. CJ. Very flattering indeed.

It's like Vegas! The mindset is you can basically do whatever you want there without fear of reprecussions. It's a conscience free zone and in such a place it would be okay to embrace dark thoughts and desires. It's actually kind of appealing for those of us who travel on the irish catholic guilt train. lol

Is it them or really just us? Can we place blame for what I believe is just part of human nature which some folks have successfully tamed and contained? I guess in the long run it is easier to accept a darker side or element of ourselves if we can at least partially detach from it.

I'll send you a postcard when I get to Vegas. lol

Really got me thinking. Enjoyed the read.

..the costume nears completion!..hooray! merci pix..i am very stoked about it..

us or them?..an excellent question..and the line is so indistinct..i have wondered for a long time now just where our ideals of right and wrong might stem from if the biblical element had never existed..hmmm..

and vegas!..i have heard much of this strange and distant place. thinkn i might like to pass thru there sometime just to witness the debauchery..i believe the burning man festival is held in the same state and one of these years i WIll attend..

I would imagine there is a poem waiting to be written about the costume or in the voice of transformation when you wear it. Could be interesting. Now I wonder were you creating when you wrote silken thread?

The burning man...I first thought of the druids and Samhain rituals since it's coming upon that time of year. I'm a fan of the ancient Celts. Why not go? lol

to me, the costume is a poem in itself, but will likely inspire new fires upon completion.. as any work of art may seem a poem..even the grand assenblage of a branching wooden form to be set ablaze..when i go, i will write..and paint ..and imbibe..and enjoy.

no silk threads in this piece..its all leather, paint, glue, and illusion..

Sort of reminds me of a section in Herman Hesse's "Steppenwolf" The freakshow aspect. Or maybe it's just a recurring dream.

It's actually fitting for the Halloween season, with an eerie hint to it.

Not all knowledge is the kind we might find pleasant, at least not at the time of learning. There are dark truths about us we might prefer not to know...many of them desires we may not wish to admit.

At least that's where I went with your poem.

you are the second to have brought the "steppenwolf" to my attention these past months..i must find and read that book, i think...in sifting through memories unprinted last night, this one kept surfacing, and it may be the hallowed season indeed that brought it to mind..masks and paint..the one day where we may be fully transformed into something we are not..or secretly are..
you are a perceptive fella, mr.yem..where you took the poem is precisely where i wanted it to go..everyone has a darker side..as much as any might try to deny it..
