My Greatest Fear

People are scared of many things
Snakes, Bears, Spiders, and a wide variety of things
But you ask me what I'm scared of and you'll get no such answer
Im not scared of heights, not even death
What fills my heart with fear is the thought of someone seeing the real me
No covers, no hiding behind my laughter and the jokes I tell
Because you think that you know me
You think that you've seen what I've seen
And you think you've done what I've done but you haven't
You haven't even come close
And I'm scared for you too look inside
Because what you're going to find is something you can't define
And whatever people can't define is something you reject
The fear of the unknown drives people away
We are all covered by our little disguises
Disguises that hide our pain, our anger, our strain
Something hidden deep within that we cage like a lion
It fights and tries to get itself out
But no matter how much it hurts we just hide it away
And at the end of the day
I just gotta say
I don't want to hide myself from the world
I just don't see any other way
