Morning Can Be Hell

Missing image
Smoking cigars, drenched in over-priced booze;
The young groupie, a respite from my wife -
A distraction from the glare of public life...
Quick tryst, then back to the hotel to snooze.

* * *

Woke up this morning head pounding apart,
Friend's fists pounding on the door to my suite
Far too early to get something to eat.
The day can't go well with this kind of start.

* * *

"What do you mean she is dead in the car?"
I did'nt think they would find it this quick.
"Do you think the murder charges will stick?"
They won't dare, I'm a political star.

* * *

The bootlegger's scion escaped his fate
But, for Mary Jo, it was her last date.

    And that piece of shit did get away with it. How sad. But theMan up in heaven always has the last say. How sad we have become when those like him & the OJs of our country can become heros. Great write.

    Great write Mike, as always your passion for politics and history really shines through I was very shocked when you told me this story and you have really brought it to life in your poem with his complete disregard for human life and thinking he is untouchable. I enjoyed this Best of luck in the contest

  • Really nice work here. I really enjoyed the Rhyme scheme. The story in it really ended up surprising me. Over all, I really anjoyed reading this poem. Good stuff.

    • So many people are fixated on the outer trappings of this 'royal' family that they forget or minimize their shortcomings. Sometimes the very great have very great problems.

      Thanks for reading and commenting. I am glad you enjoyed this.
