where did you come from? where are your parents today? have they forgotten it's sunday? or did they stop believing?
religion is just a state of mind, you know.
there's this angel with enormous wings.
she told me to go east until i came to the ocean. she told me to bury the all the weight of the world in the sand. she dared me to drown, like a fish out of water. she told me to look to the sky and throw open my palms.
sometimes you don't have to die to seek redemption, and you don't have to pray to understand. you just have to hold on to
whatever you can.
did it hurt you?
i know they promised. you could have sat down next to me that summer on the pier. if only you knew. i was just as lonely as you. you could have traced all your wishes and bruises on my six-year old bones and i would have kept them safe for you for as long as you needed. but more than anything, i'm sorry.
i'm sorry i couldn't make it better.
i'm sorry i didn't see anything more than five-year old tears in those eyes the day your daddy showed you what it meant to be a man.
go east, she said, till you drown in the sea.
till you're back where you started and you realize that the earth will never be big enough to lose yourself.
and god help me find
some peace of mind.
