Like the gathering of the phantoms
The mist rolled o’re the land
Upon the hills and grasses
It lays a frosty hand
The peaks upon the mountains
Lay covered with a cloud
Of snow white mist that lingers long
As though to form a shroud
And the seas in all their splendor
Rise up to greet the day
With foamy waves of misty clouds
To see night on its way
Though the morning meets us coldly
The day it seems so bright
For the gathering of the mist today
Has caught us with delight
And the dew drops touched the flowers
As gently as they can
And for a time there lays a white
Of mist that hugs the land
The gathering of the mist today
Rolled slowly o’re the land
Upon the hills and grasses
It laid a frosty hand

That kinda sounds like the midst that happens near water.I love the whole poem. Rise up to great the day. I love to look at the frost it seems so fragile and white. Untouched by human hands. I like the picture picture that went with it. It nice to see natural poems reminding us of all the good things that brighten our world.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I too love watching mist although it can be hard when you are working out in it as I sometimes do in the early morning.

Really refreshing and we have evening mist that rolls over the fields from the river and can freeze white and then in the morning it is in reverse as the earth warms and the frost melts into mist that gradually evaporates away. That was the time of day I used to love to ride when the bright, cold, morning mist was drifting away. You brought back those wonderful times.

This was so beautiful; people often write about the mist being 'creepy' and the perfect setting for a horror movie, but you brought it to life in a different light - in one of wonder and awe and majesty! Bravo!
Favourite lines had to be,
"Like the gathering of the phantoms
The mist rolled o’re the land"
Absolutely LOVED that imagery it brought to mind

Beautiful visual..
I think this part really says it all.
And the dew drops touched the flowers
As gently as they can
And for a time there lays a white
Of mist that hugs the land

As gently as the can small typo here I think should it read they can?
A beautiful description of a misty autumn morning. There is always something strangely ethereal about they way mist hovers between the ground and the sky sort of ghostly especially when animals are captured in it so partially hidden from view.

Thank oyu so much and thank you for picking up that typo! I will correct it asap. I love the mist in the morning but only from the inside of the house. Of course, I work outdoors so experience this quite early in the mornings on my way to work. Will drop by in the morning to do some reading.
