your eyes are dark
like warm chai tea
and
wet earth
that reaches
miles and
miles
to hold the salt seas
that Persephone
was held
under.

  • Nicely done. One part modernity, one part classic. It is a nice blend for a warm fall evening. I enjoyed the imagery.

The longing in the first seven lines, speaking to promise and the feeling that it is out of reach. Then, the simple twist of a classical analogy keeps the sense of a dream, but speaks, as well, to the promised hope of spring. Salt seas brings a dash of tears, nicely flavoring the sense of ache, between the title and brown images I am led back to Persephone and how beginnings feel like losses with a thread of hope twisted into the fabric.
