Have you ever wished you could
change who you are?
I could have rivalled Madame Tussaud,
with my waxy sculptures.
Made in the corners of
upper school proms and family get-togethers
with cheap table candles, a pound a dozen.
Well, what else does a social outcast do
at parties?
I dip my fingers into the heat
to work my magic
as my fingerprints, my identity,
they're sealed with layers of wax.
After creating "Adalia",
a beautiful figure as tall as a pencil
with at least twenty candles worth of wax,
I sit back to admire my masterpiece.
The only reminder I thought I'd have of prom.
But never had I foreseen
the girls approaching me
and picking up my treasured Adalia.
Their words still echo in my ears.
"She's beautiful, and so are you."
I'll never forget...
how I peeled the wax from my fingers,
how I let my identity shine that night,
and how we danced with Adalia in our midst.
Now I know that you should never change who you are...
because every girl is beautiful.

Author notes
I chose the name of the wax sculpture to be Adalia, because I think it's such a pretty name... it's the name of the poem because Adalia showed everyone the speaker's true beauty.
Note: Though written from a first person view, and though I love to make stuff out of candle wax, this isn't about me. The girl in the poem is similar to me, but not the same.

Good...
.... have you ever noticed that certain references come in cycles. Like you will think about something or some phrase and then with in 2 days time 2 other friends will recite that back to you. It could be something from a movie or pop culture in general? Well there you went with me I though about the movie The Wax Museum (Halloween time ya known) them my daughter yesterday mentioned the same person you did Madame Tussaud, I just thought that there was some paradox going on or something. Quit stalking my thoughts!

Clever write...change your identity...I have what they call topical dermititus, I have problems with getting finger printed, the cops told me I would make a good crook...lol, this is unique, to erase your finger prints...excellent. Blessings.
