I've heard your sorry for the thousandth time.
Can't even sleep for it stomping in my mind.
Poor sorry, the word is so misused
by men to the women they've abused.
When an action makes you upset
sorry doesn't stop how mean you get.
Boy, you just whipped the shit outta me.
Busted my lip, my left eye can't see.
I stand wiggling another loose tooth,
you look on sidestepping the truth.
Through this haze of recurring pain
you keep insisting I accept total blame.
You believe sorry cuts you some slack
makes these bruises fiction instead of fact.
Sorry bullshits you into thinking everything's alright.
Sorry only hangs around til next time you wanna fight.
If even sorry knows you're bluffing
you should know sorry means nothing.
Cause you got big balls don't make you a man.
Neither does smacking women with your hand.
Baby real men don't knock women in the dirt,
don't nut off of our fear or bring us hurt.
Sorry is the main reason you hit.
Sorry tells you you're not inadequate.
Sorry bruh, sorry done put you down
hardened my heart, erased my frown.
You've said sorry to me so much
I now flinch from it and your touch.
Not cause its mission is to appease
after you've slapped me to my knees
but from disgust because finally...

Funny... when we used to say we were "sorry" in response to something my grandmother told us to do or not to do, she would simply state, in a soft matter-of-fact voice; "Yes you are!, sorry is as sorry does".
Thanks for the reminder, thanks to you and "Wasted On Me". Behavior by abusers such as a man who would ever set out to physically harm a women, any woman, is not something I have had to attest to on a personal level. But I've seen it enough to know the details in its face.

this takes me,the reader right into your world,cringing and holding back,though I may be...brutally real and here and now...it has a feeling of determination,and hope fpr the future..you have told a story and i wanted to read it....i really like your use of the word ..sorry ...in its many meanings throughout the poem..it keeps reminding us what a useless word it is if not heartfelt. -
Very nice. Based on your poem, I'm going to assume you are female. You explain things very well, the pain, and put out there an issue that most women will not. Reminds me of self-injury, however it is talked about more commonly than SI. I really liked your chosen vocabulary. When i first saw it, I thought it my be the author trying to apologize, but as I read it I realized you were defining "sorry" in a a way that men(and women!) use it as an excuse. Very nice.
