Silences on canvas

her being is offered no rest,

only pain; intensely layered

on coarse canvas

individually brushed

strokes escape

into togetherness; yearnings

glazed upon mind

as unspoiled journeys will continue

to give life through stained silences;

precious reminders

of a mother's love

beautiful, the punctuation to me is enough to slow us down as we read and feel it more.. Nicely done!

    I love this!!!!

Punctuation properly used will draw out the strength of this poem, for it should not be rushed or hurried in its reading as it is now, but savored and thought upon. I love the dramatic imagery! You have so much potential within this poem, well thought and full of loss. I am sorry for your loss, I do however sugest reading Robert Frost's poems, like the road not taken.
This is beautiful. The silence is your loss of her, the canvas is your memory of her. Like I said it shows great potential, with proper gramar and punctuation it wil be stellar. Full of emotion which is the key to fine art. For art without emotion, is not art at all... Cheers! Robert.
ps keep up the great work.

I was so sorry to hear about your friend's tragedy. We grieve when we lose anyone we care about, but the loss of a child is a special misfortune. She is fortunate to have loving friends such as you to help her through this terrible time. May she find the peace she richly deserves. Liz

I do not know how you live through this horror and the idea of this is already too much for me to bear. May your friend find rest in knowing her little angel is safe from all hurt and pain.

My deepest sympathy to her and her family. May they find the answers they are searching for in the voice of the friends that they have to hold their hands.

Lovely poetry Frans. So very sorry to learn of this tragedy.

My heart goes out to your friend, Frans.  As a mother I can only imagine a loss like this... Your poem is lovely.

I wrote this poem last year when my daughter's boyfriend died in a car accident. You can share this with your friend:

too short your summer, too soon
    autumn falls through
    our eyes;

    between the branches
a pale day peers out -
there is silence in the trees

    we stand with arms
    filled with sobs, the colour
    of clouds, heavy
    and sunless

it’s the last day of summer,
    and winter, with moist eyelids,
    is already near

yet, the clear days of your smile
    still surround us,
    ever-blue, ever-warm

    like summer,
    like doves

in the light above the trees,
    above the clouds

  • This is

such an elegant write, full of pathos & a plethora of emotion. It depicts so well the grieving process & how a Mother relives in silence the memories of her departed child. Her memories are all she can cling to in the beginning stage of her grief. She paints a picture in her mind with her memories that only she can process on her canvas.
Your years of compassion spent with others shines through all your writes Frans. Here's something you can share with your friend:

    •  Another Mother Who Understands Your Loss Too

Losing your daughter really isn't fair,
raising her and  loving on her with special care.
Your precious daughter will always be in your heart
right from your womb this love for her did start.

Oh what a precious gift your daughter has been,
but losing her now you probably feel you didn't win.
I too understand the loss as a mother of my own child,
he was to young, just twenty-four and I miss how he smiled.

It's been two years and one month since that tragic day,
I still grieve as a mother many times in different ways.
Please just know that you are not alone for I understand,
we must unite with our hearts entwined making a strong strand.

As we journey through with support from each other
with tender loving care comes from one mother to another.
Always share about your precious daughter and your grief,
for we are in mourning and somehow this does bring relief.

Always keep her alive for she truly still lives within your heart,
she always will just like my son does for me, from the very start.
Our children are really not suppose to leave before we do,
but unfortunately this is our reality and why I have no clue.

I just hope you have faith that life is much larger then we can perceive,
there is a Master Creator who loves more then we could ever conceive.
If your faith is frail just stand by another it will get you through,
Praying with an aching heart that also cries these pains with you!!!

    A poem like "mother's love"!

The poem above "offered" me to comment the "pain intensly layered on canvas" or on the pages of your probably -already- finished book of poetry. If there had been something similar to my speculation I'm sure it could make a great relief upon the readers' soul in the case of all pains no matter intense or diluted but written-well- down by FransB!
Our great poet friend:I applaud ye...

Oh wow Frans this is so painfully true for a parent whom has lost their precious child. As you know I know the pain of those canvases of memories. You wish you could just yank your child right out of the picture so you can hug and hold and smell and love on them, hear their voices, cries and their laughter!!! The Love For A Child is so very strong and children are the most precious gift from God besides of course our Salvation. My heart aches as I type this out for your friend but also as I still grieve for my own son!!

You are such a great friend to have and I'm sure she will find great comfort with your loving compassion and your understanding of the love you to feel for your children but knowing she is in pain from the loss of her own daughter!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your friend right now and I'm here if you need me.

Wishing You And Your Friend Many Blessings,
    Much Love Always,
    Kelle Marie

How the heart aches for your friend.

and so, it is Fall, and with her comes such beautiful endings
and goodbyes enough to tear the heart out of an angel

leafy tears fly out from faces of dear trees, and in their sorrow
are they wondrous and in their weeping there is beauty

sounds of sorrow sweep sky and burrow in under the breast,
burrows in beneath roots, and enters core of our creation

it is heard it is seen and, there is a quilt of quiet
that wraps us while numb with chill and stillness

but, oh, how soul will appreciate and sing,
once we remember to every season is a new beginning,
just as beauty ~ nay, more beautiful ~ that the one before

As you look into these clouds thick with sorrow's rain,
remember you cannot lose what you've already gained.
They are not far from us, they are only away -
we'll be reunited with our loved ones someday.
Grief is like the tide, it ebbs and it flows -
wherever a tear falls, a new flower grows.

Blessings and empathy to you and yours.

My Prayers For Your Friend and Family

Dear Frans, I am sorry for the loss of your friend's daughter. There are no words enough to comfort. In time the beautiful memories will remain and ease the heartache. I leave this poem I wrote as I sat one day missing my dear son Brian so very much.

    Brushed up against a memory,
wind I felt yet did not see.
Thoughts of you flooding my mind,
so tightly held they now unwind.

    Upside down twist the hourglass,
    once again let memories pass.
Each grain of sand a speck in time,
    together grandiose sublime.

Turned the corner on past the why?
    remembrances still make me cry.
In my chest I still feel you near,
with every heartbeat you are here.

Creep into my mind and caress,
    my disguised pain and loneliness.
Empty place once shared with glee,
    within my heart sweet memory.

    Heavenly traveler that you be,
    now living life eternally.
You are in my thoughts today,
    everyday since you went away.

    Peace and Grace, Sandy

Silence will grow in time, until a day
when the joy of having will exceed the pain of letting go,
a silence that will soothe like a balm,
remembering the life of the past,
the way our memories walk with us,
love so strong it will always be at our side.

We are not here for easy reasons,
for love itself is not an easy thing,
but we hold it, and it holds us.
    The silence that will come,
will reveal blessings we already know,
and they will be cloaked in peace.

Thank you Dear Friend, my prayers go with you and your friend...

The title is so meaningful, many years ago, I was commissioned to paint a portrait of a daughter who had perished in an overturned vehicle, working with photographs, I grew to know this girl, the corners of her smile, the laughter in her eyes. I know her face almost as well as my own living daughter's face.
I understand their need for the portrait.
Poetry serves the same purpose, the words can offer solace.
A tender poem is a proper offering, I can only imagine the intense grief.
