When her daddy passed away.
Her mommy tried to comfort her,
To make it all okay.
My daddy's coming back.
He really said he would.
If I just keep believing,
And be very, very good.
He really did think it,
When he went out the door.
Then he had the accident.
We can't see him anymore.
Mom and Cindy went shopping
Right after a good long nap.
While they were there at the mall,
Cindy sat on Santas' lap.
What would you like, little girl,
A doll or perhaps a toy?
He expected the usual answer,
As from every girl and boy.
She waited just a moment.
Then to his surprise.
Her little face grew serious,
And tears formed in her eyes.
Santa, I don't want a toy,
Nor anything in your sack.
I just want my daddy.
Can you bring him back?
My daddy had an accident.
Then he had to die.
Santa, I know your reindeer,
Can fly way up high.
My daddy is up in Heaven.
It is way up in the sky.
I really need to see him.
I need to say good-bye.
Santa, I'll be waiting.
I love him, don't you see?
Please go and tell my Jesus,
To send him home to me.
Santa's heart was breaking.
His eyes were filled with tears.
Nothing like this had happened,
In all his many years.
Please, don't cry, Santa.
Just do what you can do.
Even if you can't get him,
I will still love you.
Just give him a message.
Here's what you need to say.
If you can't go home to Cindy,
She'll come to you someday.

Very touching and quite sad!
You really got to me! You really deserved to win the trophy for this! Great poetry and a story all at the same time! This would be great for a child who had lost a parent, especially to war!

-
Oh Darlee, this is so sad yet so deeply beautiful..I couldn't help but cry while reading it. Such a tender write. Congrats on the shiny's, they are well deserved.

Linda

Oh, this is so sad, it brought tears to my eyes, but its also hopeful in its innocence and the strength of a little girl belief.I love the ending 'cos I kept thinking O.M.G how is Santa going to answer this one!Lovely beautiful, beautiful poem.Montey

Oh my, beautiful
This made me tear up. It's so beautiful and sad, it happens so often. The part :
"My daddy is up in Heaven.
It is way up in the sky.
I really need to see him.
I need to say good-bye."
was so sad and it really hit hard. This poem was amazing and deserves applause, thank you so much for putting this on this website. Powerful.

Tearing
I teared up as I read this, and the ending just ads so much it reminds me of a song I know you'd like called Love Me. It broke my heart, the faith of that little girl. What inspired this write? -
tears in my eyes;
"Santa, I don't want a toy,
Nor anything in your sack.
I just want my daddy.
Can you bring him back?"
the whole part about flying up to heaven is gorgeous and heart breaking; fantastic write! deserves more trophies. i might be holding a contest about sad holidays soon, i am not sure if i will allow prewrites yet but keep a look out for it : )

*More Tears*
Your peoms are beautiful to say the least. I am glad I found you on this site. Your peoms make me cry, but this is a good thing, it means I really love them. Please tell me which ones you think are the best. And keep up the good work, so I can keep on crying. -
That was one of the best poems i've read in a while. It had my eyes watering and everything. And i usally don't like poems that ryhme. I wouldn't change a thing with this writing. The part that made me tear up was the little girl saying how she just wanted to see her dad again. like any child would. anyways keep up the great work

Excellent
This is a beautiful poem filled with love and the emotions of faith only a child can hold on to. They are so trusting in what we tell them. We need to be careful because the time will come when they know the truth.

-
That is really sweet about the reindeer flying up high; I can imagine a child thinking that they could go get him.

-
Deeply sad and very moving...
It puts Christmas in perspective. Christ mas is about people, not things! Wonderful write and Merry (early) Christmas! Loved it.

-
Awww this is soo moving

Did this really happen? It has the feel of a real story and children do say these things. A lovely poem either way, Christmas will be upon us sooner than we think and it is good to remember that our greatest gifts are the people we love.

DEEPLY MOVING!!!!
As I sit here with tears falling ever so softly down my cheeks I am reminded of other stories much like this little girls. So many children in the world who are without a parent by means of accidents or other mishaps. And as they keep in their thoughts and hearts their parents love out of their mouths come the most endearing words and thoughts one has ever heard.
I am reminded of the old saying "out of the mouth of babes" and indeed this saying is ever so true.

Aw....
That poem was so sweet. It makes me want to cry a little. Great job. -
Oh my godness honey
This is truly the most awesome wqrite I have read in a very long time . How precious the child through their love and honesty to ask for the very miracle they hear about and yet in the knowing it might not be possible they still say they would love Santa if he couldnt anyway .I love it honey
