If I could wave a wand
and ‘cure’ just one thing
Poverty would be my choice,
all others it would bring
War would be less likely
if poverty did not thrive
Governments use poor men,
to give away their lives
Health related issues
have a direct correlation
Most affected are the poorest
in every single nation
worldwide, they are starving,
sick and neglected
forgotten by the politicians
In society they are rejected
Our lives are often blighted
by poverty driven crime
Basic rights swept aside
in a political pantomime
It seems to me that poverty
would be the one to banish
I would like to wave a magic wand
and simply make it vanish

Nicely stated. This was a good, light, but meaningful read.

a very good rhyming scheme and lends itself to the natural flow, which is what rhyme is suppose to do in poetry; be subtle in form. this is a very fine effort! as for the subject-matter,...just don't get me started!!!

Oh yes ! absolutely - your right they all have a direct correlation ! fabulous

Great rhyming creates a very nice flow. Very nicely written. You've made a very convincing case. Amazing how we turn our backs sometimes on things inconvenient to see. I'm guilty and yet I grew up in poverty (for some period of time).
