I Wish That I Could Have a Pet

I wish that I could have a pet
To stroke and hug all night
If mother let me have a pet
I know I'd treat it right

I'd have a giant turtle
And I'd keep it in the pool
It would be the coolest pet to have
The coolest pet in school.
But if I had a turtle
It would swim and swim all day
I would never get to stroke him
We would never get to play...
So I do not want a turtle
Even though it would be nice...
No, no, I've changed my mind
I want a whole nest full of mice!

I'd have a nest of mice
And I would keep them in the drawer
They would be the coolest pets to have
The best in school, I'm sure!
But if I had a nest of mice
They'd run all round the house
"Oh no! Oh no!" My mother'd cry
"I think I saw a mouse!"
So I do not want a nest of mice
Although it would be sweet...
No, no, I've changed my mind
I want a rainbow parakeet!

I'd have a rainbow parakeet
And keep him in the hall
It would be the coolest pet to have
The coolest of them all!
But if I had a parakeet
He'd make a lot of noise
I could never sleep or read a book
Or play with all my toys!
So I do not want a parakeet
Although he'd make me smile
No, no, I've changed my mind
I want a baby crocodile!

I'd have a baby crocodile
And hide him in the loo
It would be the coolest pet to have
The best in school, it's true!
But if I had a crocodile
Then mum would disagree
For he'd frighten all our friends
Or even eat them up for tea!
So I do not want a crocodile
Although it's fun and that
No, no, I've changed my mind
I want a Persian pussy-cat!

I'd have a Persian pussy-cat
Who'd curl up on my bed
It would be the coolest pet to have
The best so far I've said!
But if I had a pussy-cat
She'd leave her fur in clumps
"Achoo achoo!" My father'd wail
And come up red with lumps!
So I do not want a pussy-cat
Although it would be cute...
Why, I really do not have a clue
What kind of pet I'd suit!

... So if I cannot have a pet
To give my mum a shock
Then I'll save my dad the sneezing fits
And purchase a pet rock!
I could put him in my pocket
I could take him into school
I could stroke him any time, oh yes
A pet rock would just RULE!
