A man though small in stature had a repertoire to capture,
with songs from G&S he made us smile.
His grin wide as the ocean booming voice a magic potion,
broke through unchartered boundaries per mile.
So resonant his vocals, left impressions on the focals,
with tales of hippopotami and mud.
Such glorious belly-flopping of these creatures slippy-slopping,
told in a way, you’d hear them plonk and thud.
This person unassuming never needed any grooming,
he was one of the greats and that is true.
His voice we will remember every month down to December,
Sir Ian your public will not forget you.
Author notes
Hope this is not too late for the contest-I could not work up a 'take' on a song but could only commit to a tribute so, sorry Jeffkins!
Ian Wallace was an amazing artist and person who will be sorely missed by many of those-including me-who remembers his magic.

A fun poem ...
and a sweet tribute with some interesting imagery that caught my eye. I having been a great fan of G&S! am particularly am fond of Gilbert's poems in the "Bab ballads" I loved the form that you chose to share you poem in (reminds me of Robert Service's poetry as well) and I feel that you took the ball and scored a goal. The last verse seemed a bit hurried but it works. joy

G&S played a big part of my life at secondary school-we were well known for putting on countless productions and I am proud to say I did rise from the ranks of chorus to lead roles in 'Pirates' and 'Trial By Jury'. Splendid splendid days!
