The Adventures of Cap'n Tristan

His cutlass is sharp
and his powder dry
a glimmer in his eye
With Cap'n Tristan at the helm
no need to wonder why
whether 'tis be dragons
or monsters from the deep
With Cap'n Tristan at the helm
We'll never know defeat

And it's
yo ho yo ho
over the bounding sea
yo ho yo ho wherever the wind may lead

Wind was blowin high
the sails were taut
the target drawin nigh
Cap'n Tristan gave the word
the colours they did fly
They saw the flag on high
gave up without a shot
Cap'n Tristan shared the gold
and we sailed into the Sun

and it's
yo ho yo ho
over the bounding sea
yo ho yo ho
wherever the wind may lead

The waves rollin' hard
the ship was tossed
black clouds were coming in
then Cap'n Tristan ordered us
to turn into the wind
He heard his mother's voice
we knew we'd met our doom
Mighty Cap'n Tristan had
to go in and clean his room

and it's
yo ho yo ho
putting the toys away
yo ho yo ho
he'll sail again one day

Author notes

This is for my 5 year old grandson. A mighty pirate sailing the seas of his back yard in his cedar playground "pirate ship". I'm First Mate Poppa.

Ain't imagination grand?

Haha... aye aye cap'n we be feelin' the wrath o' the mum! This was so amazingly adorable! I was all set up to say, "Oh what a grand old tale you have told about this seadog"... then you hit me with that last verse and I completely lost it. It made me feel like I had been playin' pretend right along with those "pirates". Yes... this is definately adorable. I love pirate songs and this is no exception Love the whole thing!

Happy it was good for ya lassy, (and it was, wasn't it.)...anyway. Sing the first two verses with all the pirate gusto you can muster, slow and mournful for the third, with lots of mandolin, kick it up at end of last line. You'll get it.
      Happy Halloween-,
      Peace

ey ey skippa. such a cool poem, your grandson will cherish this as he grows older. I love the lines:
    "He heard his mother's voice
we knew we'd met our doom
    Mighty Cap'n Tristan had
to go in and clean his room"
    what a punchline! soooo cute!!

This is just awesome. By any chance was you blasting out some Alestorm when writing this? It just screams pirate metal - Which is a good thing from where I'm sitting
    Brilliant work though

I had no idea that there was such a thing as "Pirate Metal"...kinda figures that there would be. Alestorm huh? I will take a look for them on allmusic, they are an ok site, the critics are a bit pretentious though.
I had actually been practicing the mandolin for a bit and then went out to play with my grandson. Pick any piratey tune from the many drinking songs of the late 1700's. Sing it with Gusto.
I had been listening to a lot of Marillion as well.
      Glad you enjoyed this.
      Peace

Alestorm are Scottish form of Pirate Metal. Pretty good stuff if you like vocals that sounds like the guy has inhaled alot of smoke. Aye, I always enjoy your work
I'll have to give allmusic a look

I sing everything from smooth and easy to Motorhead. So I like a lot of different vocal styles.

Ya should like Alestorm then - Their best track so far would have to be Captain Morgan's Revenge
