Reflections On A Dried Pond

It is midnight as I run
My feet barely touching the earth
As I run threw woods away from city lights
The noise of people and machines fading away
Leaving behind civilization and my man
I am running farther then I had dare go
There are random moments where I falter
But there seems to be wings at my feet
That keep me upright and moving away
Faster, farther, senselessly going
I run till there is nothing to run too
And I have left is to run away
I collapse to my bleeding knees
My callused hands shaking to hold me up
Breathe, deep, shallow, catch up to me
My vision is cloudy but fog from my breath
Is easy to see in darker, denser clouds
I don’t have to look to know where I am
I have come to the center
A scared hallow surrounded by life
But the land it self is dead
The ground is dirt and stone
What green could grow doesn’t
Not here, not anywhere on this hollow
It only lives at the edge, in its respected spots
If you were to stand at the said edge
You could see that this had once been something else
Just as I have once been something else
This dead ground surrounded by life
Use to be a pond
And I had once been an innocent woman
The pond has dried up
Barren, cold, enriched but not life-giving
There was nothing to be seen in this earth
No water or crystal stones to show you the way
It’s time had long since past
My chance as been gone longer then I had known
But still I had run here where life is unable to grow again
Perhaps it was companionship that brought me here
A kindred spirit this dried up pond and I
For even though there is nothing there to show me
What it use to be and its glowing beauty
I run here and collapse at the center to stare down
And see my reflection on this dried pond
