[ "Mother, oh dearest, ]

"Mother, oh dearest,
why do you frown so?"
"My life's been a hard one
that you'll never know"

"The twinkle in your eye,
the skip in your step,
you used to be great
now you've got no pep."

"Buy her some flowers"
says the kind old man
"Tulips, carnations
and chrysanthemans"

"Buy her some flowers
she'll smile once again.
Tulips, carnations
and chrysanthegans"

Flowers I did buy,
a whole bouquet full
and looked to her face
where a smile did pull.

Mother was laughing
and skipping again.
I had her back
that was nothing to feign.

"Buy her some flowers"
the old man had said
"Tulips, carnations
and chrysanthemeds."
