marguerite is always sleeping
in our class she dreams away
monday I wrote her a note
I slipped it in her quilted coat
but marguerite was fast asleep
she's always sleeping, always sleeping
lazy marguerite
Marguerite plays in the evening
sometimes she's awake 'till day
cigarettes and city walls
and smiling chinese paper dolls
but in the day she's always sleeping, always sleeping

marguerite is always sick
she hasn't been to school for days
know too much and grown too fine
she lies in bed till 8 or 9
and won't get up for suppertime
she's always sleeping, always sleeping

Marguerite is fast asleep and
All day long she dreams away
in a tone so sweet and low
i whispered that i love her so
and prayed the Lord her soul to keep

I love this poem, though I don't know what it is about your writing that stuck with me. I think it's because your language is perfect; violatingly-soft, an inappropriately-soothing contrast. The whole scene is very mature, yet your words read very lyrically, like a morbid nursery-rhyme.
This is excellent, and I can't wait to read more from you.
