Can't you do that?
Isn't the muse, the inspiration
Whatever that is inside you
Powerful enough for that?
Write a tree.
Write the roots, reaching down
Into the deep
into the cool
into the damp soil,
searching for the best.
Write the trunk, strong
gnarled by everything
not giving an inch
to nature
that it cannot
keep.
Write the branches, reaching
into the sky
searching for what can
be found
there.
Write the leaves, the things
with which it warms
itself in summer
and sheds
in the winter
to keep cool
as
the tree
sleeps.
Write a tree.
Find yourself.
Author notes
Inspired by the style of Charles Bukowski (to whom I've just been introduced).
One of the few freeverses that I've written...and probably the one I like best, so far.

Interesting
I'm not sure if I like the way you broke up the lines, it has a slight syncopation that I think I like, but it definitly made me think about it, very nice.

-
Good job...
There is depth here... I can see your tree!!

-
I love this and that is all I have to say. =]

GOOD WRITE
It isn't the most ordinary thing to write a tribute to a tree. But it's quite ordinary to write something about nature's destruction. What's nice about this poem is its universal message that will likely touch the human heart.
-
I really like this. The idea of it, the message in it, and the way it presents itself. Bukowski is one of my faves, and you're in for a treat as you explore him more. Very well done, here. =)

A wonderful tribute to a tree, free style give one liberties with words other wise not useable. This poem is very touching and easy to read and understand.

-
Like this poem which gives insight into the poetic muse. fav lines:
"Write a tree.
Find yourself."
that is so insightful as we all find ourselves through the creation of our poems.

-
I really enjoyed your metaphor of your muse as a tree. Very creative

I like this. Write the tree, roots, truck, branches....
good descriptions of where each is going. Write yourself - good analogy.

-
I think Bukowski might have sworn a bit more.
Nicely written, a lovely subject.

-
Thanks

He didn't swear in all his poems
This was written after I read 'Bluebird', which didn't have any in it (and it was written by him
)
Thanks for reading.
