A building stands before me, and if I crane
my neck, I can see my people at desks and
manning telephones. At a pinch I can hear
the metallic clunk as a computer cog spins
to count another penny in the city's kitty.
When I wake, the sun is still below the horizon,
and the only whirring is the metallic
gates holding the hoards of
people back from the palace gates. I long
to stop hearing, shut out the noises and slip back to
aesthetic dreams.

my poem explores what a ruler who has lost the favour, and money, of her people dreams; note the contrast in line length/form in the two stanzas please

I study the inside of my eyelids.
-i found this very cliche.
At a pinch I can hear
the metallic clunk as a computer cog spins
to count another penny in the city's kitty.
-the flow of this was brilliant, i love the imagery, the everydayness of it all.
if i'm being absolutely nitpicky, i'd say i don't like the way you used the title in the poem, at the very end. but you pulled the piece off very well, in whole. thanks for entering.

I once saw a play by Bert Brecht
At the time I was totally wrecked;
For me this rather spoiled it
And I threw up in the toilet.
