and paper pirate hats
When plywood, two by fours,
Some nails, a cloth door
could become a ship,
a home, a hunting parties refuge
When all you have is scraps
you have nothing but imagination
to spring unto you the world
Look, see that old car?
Its not a car at all!!!
Hop inside and lets go for a ride
In time to the lives of cowboys and indians
This couch can be our covered wagon
Oh look! a Buffalo!
Truly it is an actual cow
Out in the pasture grazing.
The Indians! They are coming over the hill!
its only the neighbor girl jessie
but instantly she's in the game.
Back home to do chores,
My dad needs some help
So lets cook supper and pretend
We're on tv, like Julia Child
or that guy Dad likes who says "mokey-tatin"
Yes, take the chicken, and roll it in the egg
and soon we have fried chicken!
And we all hear the applause from the TV audience
And later that evening,
the chairs become an airplane
we're flying to Bermuda.
Of course, we need to communicate to the captain
how else? a tin can telephone
Author notes
Hope its not too long. I am 19, and this is truly how we entertained ourselves as children. Our idea of fun was pretending we were Knights and we had the rake and a garden hoe and we'd take off the dangerous ends and have swordfights. I tried to work that in but it just didn't fit. but all of these are true stories. its amazing how kids can have fun with next to nothing.
