step on through the Gateway
to find out where it goes
leave behind the dead of night
go where the sunhine glows
get set for adventure
where words will come alive
any thought that's written down
will spring right up and thrive
experiment with your words
try throwing in some rhyme
at first it may seem akward
but gets easy over time
there are many word recipes
all there for you to test
lend your hand and try some
to see which you like best
writing is so joyful
because you are in charge
you can write a tiny ode
or an epic that's quite large
let your heart speak its' mind
share your wisdom here with others
you never know just who you'll touch
among your sisters and your brothers
step on through the Gateway
where you're special and you know it
leave behind a world of cares
for here you are a Poet

Dennis, this is beautiful. What a wonderful invitation to new poets, or those who have been rusting in the rain here in Washington. I love the rhyme scheme, and the meter used here.
The poem is gentle and encouraging. Congratulations. -

First of all the title suggests an invitation, which compels the reader to accept...
Perfect rhyme and flow, incredible imagery, unique and uplifting, there are so many meaningful lines, too numerous to type out, but all in all, they remind me of a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams" or a quote by Lao Tsu: "A Journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step" only I would change [miles] for [words] which befits your poem, because you have penned a poetic message of encouragement to any would be poets or a poet that may have lost their muse
A very enjoyable poem to keep going back to...
All the best,

wow, Bro. Dennis . . . that is a beautiful graphic,
but it has absolutely nothing on this ~*brilliant*~ poem.
your stellar imagery, and the soft and tender flow of this poem
carried me into this magical gateway and beyond.
thank you for sharing,
and best of luck in the contest!
All my best,

sigh. I always like to see rhyme and you can do it so effortlessly
the flow is engaging and soft as I drift away into the Gateway - just lovely

How Precious!
A sonnet to being a poet!
This is one fine write Dennis. Love the content, tone, timing & rhyme here. What very nice eyes
& a heart
you've got that shines through the words you pen. 'Out of the abundance of the heart
the mouth speaks'. You've an abundant heart & I love being able to share in that! All the best in the Contest. I really love where you took this prompt!
BTW...your last stanza really ends this up beautifully.
