The winds blew across the boughs
of the mighty old Oak tree
a sigh was heard
a whisper felt
time seemed to be standing still
Ive had a long and wonderful life
gave shelter to man and beast
home for birds and many a squirrel
its a shame to die like this
Ive done my part the best i could
feed many a little friend
felt the rain and nurtured Mother Earth
its such a shame to die like this
without a tear or a passing thought
the Oak was cut to the ground
another piece of history gone
for another shopping mall...

Niaish for this masterpiece, my sister. Your voice is heard - like the mighty oak tree's cries, loud and clear - but yet the answer remains to be answered. This poem reminds me of the song, "Blowin' In The Wind" by Bob Dylan. It is a sad tale, and one we may never know a happy ending to. Thank you for sharing your Cheyenne wisdom and gentle spirit, Poet. Take care, and let your songs of the heartland flow on forever...

I down deep inside feel such a blessing that I was able to live where I could enjoy sights like this old oak tree everyday. Now years later and living a pretty crowded area it is those special memories which keep me being the person I am now, keeping in my heart the deep and beautiful feelings of the things only being one with nature can give to a person.

and for what dear one..nothing but pure greed..
