the Mighty Oak Weeps

Missing image

The winds blew across the boughs

of the mighty old Oak tree

a sigh was heard

a whisper felt

time seemed to be standing still

Ive had a long and wonderful life

gave shelter to man and beast

home for birds and many a squirrel

its a shame to die like this

Ive done my part the best i could

feed many a little friend

felt the rain and nurtured Mother Earth

its such a shame to die like this

without a tear or a passing thought

the Oak was cut to the ground

another piece of history gone

for another shopping mall...

    Powerful Imagery!!

Niaish for this masterpiece, my sister. Your voice is heard - like the mighty oak tree's cries, loud and clear - but yet the answer remains to be answered. This poem reminds me of the song, "Blowin' In The Wind" by Bob Dylan. It is a sad tale, and one we may never know a happy ending to. Thank you for sharing your Cheyenne wisdom and gentle spirit, Poet. Take care, and let your songs of the heartland flow on forever...
    With Love,
    Yellow Moon

Well....this was a total pleasure lass....
there was an old oak in my yard when i was young,
we tied the an old tire on a rope and and made a swing to while away the summer days.. climbing..... in it ..
    made my fort,
    just for lads of course....lol
in later years i put an old basket on it and played basketball beneath it.....
and as more years went by i sat with many a lass beneath it,
like an old friend it was...

Ive done my part the best i could
    feed many a little friend
felt the rain and nurtured Mother Earth
its such a shame to die like this...

this was sad......the same happened to my old friend..
    who watch me grow up.
this piece of work was like taking all the old movies out from my youth..
but it did not fade in to memory....it was cut down..to make room for more homes,
homes with children who missed out on all its glory and beauty.
    so sad....

    Bless you my sister,
    Liam

There seems to be something very very wrong with man taking so much beauty from our wonderful earth and not even caring about the consequences, and there will be consequences one way or the other. Such a sad telling piece that speaks of the plight of many here. Not only does the oak lose its wondrous life, but all the small creatures that lived there, relied on her and was part of her...like the plants around. So much of the eco system was torn apart and your words have shown that yet another joy of this earth has yet again been stolen. A tearful piece to me that is just so sad. Very very touching indeed. I thank you so much for sharing, my friend. Bookmarked!

    So true

Man is not conserned with preservation of the trees only on how much money they can make the things that matter most are in their eyes disposable care about the importiant things and they will survive with you

Whispering, this poem brought tears to my eyesy. To think of the might oak tree, killed for a shopping mall. How horrible, and so very sad.

Ive done my part the best i could

    feed many a little friend

felt the rain and nurtured Mother Earth

its such a shame to die like this

It is a shame. I watch them tear up the trees with machines to build more subdivisions and highways and I cry.

    Beautifully expressed.

    WONDERFUL!!!!!!

This brings out so beautifully the destruction of man I down deep inside feel such a blessing that I was able to live where I could enjoy sights like this old oak tree everyday. Now years later and living a pretty crowded area it is those special memories which keep me being the person I am now, keeping in my heart the deep and beautiful feelings of the things only being one with nature can give to a person. Profound...

Memories that can be erased... "the Mighty Oak Weeps" and Nature cries... Man won't mind what lives or dies as long he gets his profit on the graphic top high.

Outstanding poem, "the Mighty Oak Weeps" strikes environmental awareness, and delivers a wise message.

    In gratitude and admiration,

Na hemeoone, your words and thoughts bring a shiver to all who care deeply for Mother Earth and and her children,,let alone her grandchildren, the mighty oak of old,,gone in the blink of an eye,,and for what,,nothing more than another place of monetary temptation...simply churns at the heart...
