Silence fills the empty house
where once your laughter dwelt.
Cold drafts of loneliness creep in;
Your presence no longer felt.
A distant memory lingers here,
as warm as an ember glow.
But winter whispers silently
and life's river-- has ceased to flow.

Excellent
Wow, in a few lines with rhyme you captures winter for the soul, the sense of emptiness in being alone. So very well written, saying so much in a few words. Thank you for sharing

I like saying "winter whispers silently", it flows so smoothly. This poem matches the picture so well. You captured starkness with "silence fills the empty house where once your laughter dwelt" and "your presence no longer felt". There is deep emotion in this poem. Good luck in the contest.
