Rewinding Steps

~*~
darkness
overwhelms me
falling back into times
to evil deeds going unseen.
gory conscience inflicts costly havoc;
mind races back to bloody hands,
lives taken, no remorse.
I plunge into
darkness.
~*~
closer
to forgiveness;
accepting actions done
vile and rank to witnesses.
threatening family, I sold my soul
shielding them from injury,
as love knows no bounds.
it brings me
closer.
~*~
greeting
today head on,
to awaken this morn
finding tranquility about;
escape from earlier obscurity.
new days pledge serenity;
clarity has been found
in yesterday’s
greeting.
~*~

Author notes

I purposely did not use capitalization in this poem, as I believe it makes the rictameter look better.

Also, I used your prompt as the title, because I LOVE IT. I hope you don’t mind

I’d love to have another brother. And that would give me an adorable nephew, too!

Rictameter
Rictameter is a scheme similar to Cinquain. Starting your first line with a two syllable word, you then consecutively increase the number of syllables per line by two. i.e. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 Then down again, 8, 6, 4, 2 Making the final line the same two syllable word you began with.

This is a rictameter chain.

    I really enjoyed this poem and the form is very nice too. I have never done one of these but should try it sometimes. The best part to me is:
    closer
    to forgiveness;
    accepting actions done
    vile and rank to witnesses.
    threatening family, I sold my soul
    shielding them from injury,
    as love knows no bounds.
    it brings me
    closer.
    Good luck and thank you very much.
