I count every second when you’re not here
There’s no music, not even a sound…
Every time you silently disappear
My world stops turning around
I count every heartbeat you shared with me
For I know that our hearts’ beat as one…
Though we promised we’d set one another free
If ever that hour should come…
I know it is right and I know it is true
For we agreed at the very start
But I knew it would be the end of my world
Should our souls ever drift apart…
How strange are the ways of life my friend?
Your love is all that I understand
Every question and fear that clings to me
You erase with one touch of your hand
I count every word I have written for you
And every tender sigh you returned…
If there be a god, he will know they are true
For his seal on each one he has burned…
I count every breath you have breathed into me
The sweet taste of your lips upon mine
The warmth of your body was my souls’ poetry
As we drank from the same blooded vine
What ere may befall I will stand by you
Like a rock; fragile though I may be…
Neither hurt nor harm will I ever let through
That would taint your purity
And when I should reach the end of life’s days
I believe you will still be here
For my heart will never stop counting love’s ways,
They can never disappear…

Y'know in honesty, initially this appeared to me to be a well-rhymed piece about shallow love, but...your imagery is wondrous.
"What ere may befall I will stand by you
Like a rock; fragile though I may be…
Neither hurt nor harm will I ever let through
That would taint your purity"
The rhyme is sweetly perfect, and the rabid Shakespeare fangirl in me started pining at that gorgeous stanza. You end the piece nicely too.
You should feel very proud, the idea in this piece is lovely and wonderfully constructed. Thank you for entering and good luck

I believe that love
is all we take when we are so longer physical,
the essence of every love stays with us forever...
so why not collect every bit we can
this is lovely
quite an intense love
extremely stunning
just gorgeous to read
God bless you John...

I'm sure that's right Kathy, it would make no sense at all if it were not so, if God is love and as they say, love is all we need...then our whole existences will have been wasted if we do not carry that message forward when, and wherever we go to...we are wanderers looking for bits of love everywhere to keep in the scrapbooks in our hearts
Thank you for the precious words!

Add One More, Poet
If you're counting the ways, add one more to your list, for your words have just touched another heart. This is a beautiful and simple expression of what we all long to feel and hear from a loved one.
Without knowing who it was written for, I know there is someone out there who is very lucky, indeed.
Thank you, and may I have some more? Some of us must live vicariously...lol

Oh! that is such a nice compliment, you are too kind I'm sure!
Thank you for the nice words!

Undying...
unending...
long after we are not even a memory
to anyone, i will always love you.
it is the wail of the heart that never forgets....
it is what happens when we die...
we do not go to heaven or hell...
our hearts stop for a reason...
it stops just long enough for us to go back to it....
where we started......
where we always had what we just wanted to share...
all our love....
And when I should reach the end of life’s days
I believe you will still be here
For my heart will never stop counting love’s ways,
They can never disappear....
John......Amazing.......one of the most beautiful you have written.

Yes Liam, that's exactly how it is! our hearts stop because they have done their work like the rest of our corruptible physical parts...but there is a definite pause before reaching so called death, where everything slows down, and that has an influence on time; an observers perception of time here is not the same as the one who is 'dying' I believe we never actually reach that final point...and it is during this phase that life falls out of time, escaping, to continue on the never ending journey...you have put this in a wonderfully poetic fashion my friend...Love never dies...how can it? and if we live with love inside us then how can we possibly die?
You have touched on the very core of a most important truth in life
Jesus said; ...I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you...He also said; Seek and you shall find...
I wonder how many people really understood Him Liam
Thanks for sharing your time and your thoughts with me brother!

Reaching out for a love showing the emotions that is in your heart. Beautiful words you have painted for your love. I hope she hears those words that you speak wanting the same desires as you. Never give up my friend life can be complicated at times but in the end you will have your true love with you.

that stanza was, for me, the most lovely of all. This is great work!

Thank for sharing this ...
as I am a believer in just this kind of poetry! This poem of yours came straight from that place that no words can describe but a soul-satisfying sort-of dreamy zone that keeps the heart pulsing even when life is looking a bit dim with the eyesight. j

Yes, this one's really from some special place, for the heart can be selfish at times and that wasn't the aim, I took my time with it, reviewing over several days to make sure it was what I wanted...I think I got it right
Thanks Joy for the comment, I appreciate it
