Memorial Day Definition - Assignment
As I ride my motorcycle north on 41, I feel the wind in my hair and enjoy this Memorial Day. I look to my right past the tree line, as I see children playing, adults talking, and the grill smoking at a gathering on this day of remembrance. I give thanks as I ride my Harley Davidson by perfectly manicured lawns, smelling the freshly cut grass as I know this Monday, this third day of the weekend is used to catch up on yard work but also to honor those who have fought and died for our country. The cemetery on my left never looked so bright with color from the flowers placed on our fallen soldiers’ graves that are buried in the ground, so I and many others can enjoy this day of freedom. I stop for a cup of coffee at the café ahead and talk to fellow bikers with prisoner of war (P.O.W.) patches on their vests and I thank them, from a fellow veteran to another. I think of those who are not with us so I can feel the wind in my hair one more day in this free America on this blessed day.
