histrionics

historically, we've found
that a swoon, some sobs,
and everything goes our way:
jilted lovers,
abandoned brides,
the depressed and the bored,
prick your finger, shed some tears
and suddenly, the world's your oyster.

Author notes

okaaaaaaaaay... so it lacks emotion. this is my first attempt at satire, and i don't think i like it!

I get your point. It's a subject I've written on ad nauseam. lol

There is a lot of jilted, cutting, poor me poem's on AP and I've sadly written a few myself. There isn't a lot of great poetry on AllPoetry but there are a lot of tear-jerkers.

Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody's face but their own.

hehe... its most definently satire, if not ironic in a way but Im not
sure if you meant it like that lol. I just saw a lot of irony in it because
you said in your poem some sobs, and everything goes our way... which
made me think of people who just cry because they know it will be like
McDonalds (haveeee it your way.) Then at the end when it says and suddenly
the worlds your oyster, made me think a lot about people who over dramatize situations to get what they want and how true this write really is besides all
of the satire. Haha this is a good write, dont worry about it

  • You know what? I thought one wasn't supposed to 'like' satire

Seriously, this is perfect. You're absolutely right when you write this. Makes me smile (wryly, of course )

Best of luck in the contest!
