The Serpent

Coiled around my heart
The serpent smiling, like a lie
A hiss and a rattle, a warning
Before the venom strikes
The serpent bleeds out all the light

Close your eyes, recoil from the bite
Sit down, it will be all right
When the darkness closes in
I'll lay you down to eternal peace
With the serpent as your guard

I know it's dark, never meant for light
But when you see what I can see
You will wish that you had lost your sight
Scream, join the chorus
One more makes a beautiful sound

Now do you see?
I told you ignorance was bliss
But you did not believe
Too bad for you
But so much more fun for me

Ah, the serpent....I know it, except in my case it is constantly coiled at the base of the spine or at back of the mind (serpent=pain). A symbolic verse...
