Why am I in this hell of a life
Where the devil resides in full strife
and my deeds have brought me only grief
God won't forgive me or grant me relief
I've done all my sins, I'm at the gallows end
of my rope. What a dope.
Life will pass me by as the noose tightens
and love will ignore my cries, when the sun brightens
I will die in the morning light, just as the death of the night
I killed my only love, her neck in my glove
Just as I killed her lover, another
I've done all my sins, I'm at the gallows end
of my rope. What a dope.
Your evil eyes watch my face
and I feel the hate towards my disgrace
and I see your quickening breath
Wishing, no relishing my death
I see my brothers downcast eyes
and hear my mothers horrible cries
I've done all my sins, I'm at the gallows end
of my rope. What a dope...

I love the rhyme way of writing this such a sad tale though i really feel sorry for him and he did confess his sins and knew what he did was wrong. Its a kind of write that says this is what will happen if you misbehave well not nowadays but they at least would go to Jail for a time I really like the story behind the poem it really gives me the idea of what it was like or might have been for this poor man. I hope he rests in peace. x

Excellent
Your very observant. Yes, he DID, confess his ways and obviously is confronted by the presence of society's grim answer to his deeds. But, remember there are two dead and he must pay for his actions.
