You think Dorothy had it easy
Tripping down the yellow brick road
If you stop and think, you'll realize
She was carrying quite the heavy load.
She was trying to find something
That she really had all along
She thought she had to run away
But her thinking was all wrong.
And she was oh, so fortunate
To find friends along the way
They helped her through the rough spots
And gave her strength each day.
And she began to think of them
Instead of her own needs
She managed to get far down the road
Even past the poppy seeds.
She took a stand for her loved ones
Those friends she held so dear
She tried to always be forthright
And bravely hid her fear.
She pressed forward to the end
And so she did believe
That she would find her heart's desire
And happiness receive.
And so the lesson of the road
Is that you must perservere
Be a friend to those you love
And hold them very near.
Live each day, don't waste it on
Some mindless trivial mess
Use your talent, do good works
And you will have success.
Do not think the yellow brick road
Is the easy way to go
Set your goal, go after it
And one day you will know.
That anything worth having
Takes more than clicking heels
If you travel down that yellow road
You'll surely need some wheels.

Your writing reminds me of someone else's on this site. she's amazing at telling a story and making it rhyme. I liked your message at the end, nice. Thank you for taking the time to enter, I wish you all the best.
love,

I definitely remember commenting on this, but for some reason it does not show up. Maybe i just didn't click submit or something retarded. Anyway, this is amazing as always and very inspiring. Although, I'm not surprised at what prompted this... You always DO have to tie in the Wizard of Oz to everything
I love it though really. I don't know how you get things to rhyme like that. It's crazy. Good job Moom!

Whoa!
Some wonderful, wonderful advice given so sagely and in such excellent and easily readable verse as well. This is great, Jessi, and so, so true. Actually, it's something I believe and kind of "preach" all the time, and certainly stress it to "you know who." Great writing, taking something so familiar and well known and adding something fresh to it. And best of luck in the contest as well.
