christmas mischeif

We whispered our steps down the stairs
exploring newborn christmas air
giggles were muffled as mother was sleeping
and our plan was kept underway
our eyes held twinkles caught from sleeping lights
as we stared at our traditional tree
while nimble fingers closed in around boxes
wich scrawled our happy names
we looked at eachother with a devil's grin
as if each are minds was one
carefully unwrapping the magic paper
our smiles grew as we checked underneath
sending pleasant thoughts into our hearts
till we heard my mothers calls
our greatest worries were underfoot
as with each ominous footprint came more dread
we scrambled our fingers around the paper like hungry mice
till mother was right behind us
"Ready for breakfast?" she coued with a smile
as we gave one another a thankful glance
