Checking your pulse, you’re barely breathing
My heart now straining to keep on beating.
A few days to live were the doctor’s last words,
Or at least they were the last ones I heard.
Your diagnosis has left me reeling in pain,
It feels like my whole life has been sucked down the drain.
You can’t leave me, you don’t understand.
I won’t survive without another touch of your hand.
Another kiss on my face,
A display of your grace,
Without these I will seize to be,
Don’t you know what you mean to me?
Please wake up now, just take one more breath,
We can take this step by step.
I will be here to keep your broken heart beating,
I enjoyed our time, however fleeting.
I run my fingers through whets left of your hair,
Although there is barely any there.
I trace your lips,
Go down to your hips,
I love your skin against my finger tips.
Your eyes flutter open,
My hands start to shake,
I kiss your eyes, your lips, your nose,
I feel the love all the way down to my toes.
You try to talk, and the words won’t come out,
Your cracked lips quiver, threes your cute little pout.
I hear you whisper you love me so,
Then you say it’s time to go.
The tears flow freely, they’re falling like rain,
My pain flows freely,
You eyes have turned steely,
And now I am leaving,
Soon my heart too will stop beating.
