Just 13 she coats on lipstick,
twisted,
covers her lips in layers
of radiant red.
Foundation is spread
across her soft cheeks,
turning her orange.
Eyeliner is traced around
her eyes,
mascara is caked on
her lashes.
Her blue eyes cry.
Magazines are spread around her.
Stick thin models
taunt her with smirks.
Why can't she look like them?
Black tears
can't explain to her
that beauty is more than this.

I am 14, and you did a good job of not making this the old and cliche and annoying "skinny isn't beauty", girls are all obsessed with how they look, thing. you managed to give it a fresh and original spin. nice! The ending is the most powerful part of the poem by far
Black tears
can't explain to her
that beauty is more than this.
loving it -
Isn't it just and yet the young girls of today want to so much be like these 'stick insects'-They truly need someone to keep telling them that they do not need to look like that-they are unique individuals. Well penned-
