Masks

Everyone goes through life wearing a mask.
We have to hide to protect ourselves,
because if someone laughs at our mask, we can change it;
we can't change who we are.

I'm on my 51st mask and
none of them seem to fit in.
I've been laughed at for so long
that it seems to be the only thing I'm good at.

Just look at me.
Crying my mask off
so everyone can see behind it.
Don't laugh at my mask.
It's better than what's underneath.

    Hurts

    Jerry's absolutely right.
    It's
    SIMPLE.
That is what makes this unique and causes it to stand out. It really hurts to read it, the reader can turn their empathy mode on.
This is the best I've read in a very long time, better than the other ones I've read today. Although your other mask poem was very good.

I really like the theme here - it's a very nice comparison, and the fact that it's somewhat unique negates the uninteresting language. I like it.
