Complexity exists in stem and stone
but breathes of marrow and bone.
The rose stands in iconic definition,
though when the petal drips,
it's unmatchable beauty
reminds me of the lips
from which it slipped
and why your breath
means more to a man like me
than anything.

Short, simple, and profound. Going lightly on the rhyme adds to the impact that this piece has on me. The title also adds an interesting factor - I'm wondering where it came from. Nonetheless, this is a beautiful work of art & the recipient is a lucky woman
