The Great Senator's Perspective on the Healthcare Debate

Missing image
My fellow Americans, how could you dare
Vote against political healthcare?
It is just the kind of government bloat
To reward the hacks that keep us afloat.

I told my constituents it was free
And so it is to a certain degree -
Free to the Hollywood types who donate
And untold illegals who we'll pro-rate.

You may ask, what about great middle class?
Friends, they will take the tax shaft up the ass.
They failed to realize after they voted
That as a class they would be demoted.

So join hands with the political left
And share the pork that gives this bill its heft.
Ignore tort reform for it might cut
Fund raising efforts by lobbyist sluts.

Get behind this bill and apply the grease!
Vote for the double digit tax increase!

Living in U.K. most of what you describe is upon us, the utopian dream, for thats what it will prove to be, is both expensive and impractical but I applaud the attempt, liked your poem.

    • It would seem as though we should take what is out there and make it better rather than worse. Unfortunately the liberals in this country beleive the solution to a problem is to throw money at it until it goes away.

Ah, politics. It can be one of the most incendiary topics in our society. I didn't vote for Obama or McCain, so I could have complained about either! Your poem was okay at best though. Your rhymes seemed forced, but when you're making a statement, I suppose it does not matter.

Thank you for entering my contest. Good luck to you. I know how hard it is to write a poem on the spot and I appreciate the effort.

  • humz. nice one, even thought subject was not of mine interest. I still read and liked

oh I was Not to mention the incentive for smart people to be rewarded for developing excellent doctoring skills. If socialized medicine takes away that incentive, we will get mediocre people interested in job security.

The last paragraph of parenchma's comment is the absolute truth please google the VA watch dog sites and see how the physicians are not even fined or disciplined.
Oh readers digest was just smiling at the other comment.. they printed an entire issue recently against the American cancer societies recommendation of cancer screenings . The magazine is entertainment at best I guess other countries might not understand that.

Loved the poem and the comments. I believe in the self sharpening mechanism of competition. If forces people a little at least, to perform. Bureaucratic monopolies dispose of that positive influence. The examples we have reek of disinterest in serving the clients.
Police, for instance. They are nearly merely bad reporters for insurance industry. I had a theft. I had 7 chainsaw serial numbers. In the report I had to pay for to get, all the numbers were recorded incorrectly! All of them! Not one right! I complained, and they sent me to the bowels of the station where cousin IT sat with her fat ass literally (No exaggeration) in two adjoining chairs while she peered through coke bottle glasses at the screen, and proceeded to type corrections in; again, totally incorrect! And she copped an attitude with me when over her shoulder I pointed out her mistakes.! Now, there wasn't another group of police, competing for my 'business' that I could defer to.

Not to mention the incentive for smart people to be rewarded for developing excellent doctoring skills. If socialized medicine takes away that incentive, we will get mediocre people interested in job security.

    • Thank you for reading and commenting on my work. One of the things that I have been accutely aware of because I live on the Canadian border is the promotion of the Canadian healthcare system. I listen to Canadian news on the radio and on TV, despite what they say internationally, I hear lots of complaints. Long lines, no service, and waits of 6-24 months for healthcare that is not deemed to be life threatening. I also see many Canadians coming across the border to avoid these waits.

I hear alot about FREE HEALTHCARE for all. It will not be free. I would not mind paying for quality, but with no competition, the quality will suck, the poor will have to accept it and customer service will be as poor as what you describe above.

Hold on to your ankles tight, stick your head between your legs... and you know the the rest of it.

      Glad you enjoyed the poem.

    • Thank you. This is the first return of the Great Senator in several months. I have actually been hoping against hope that things were going to turn out well and had put the gentlemen from Porklandia on sabbatical. Sadly, it appears that the healthcare bill, if it goes through is just going to be one more government boondoggle.

    • I enjoyed your video clip. Make sure you line up for the pork. The government is no longer by the people or for the people. It is now basically government by the government for the government and has been for a long time. I expect some day soon they will round up independent thinkers and put us on reservations with free handouts of government cheese.

Some of my ancestors escaped that plight the first time around. I don't know if we will be as lucky this time around.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I am glad you enjoyed this.

My wife lost her healthcare one year ago. She started losing her sight 6 weeks ago - she is now almost blind. I don't know what is happening, and I can't afford to take her to the doctor, and I made abot 300$ over the limit last year to recieve poor peoples healthcare. I keep reapplying.

Your poem is an intelligent arguement/debate on paper - I'll give it that.

Unfortunately, my wife does not live on paper, or I could simply erase the eye problem and draw her new eyes.

    • I am sorry about your wife's health care. I am also one of the ones who would actually benefit by the proposed plan, or almost any plan. You have my empathy. I do agree that that the system is broken, I do not agree that anything that I have heard the current administration propose is better than what we have.

The government can barely run the business it has. I do not want a bunch of grey bureaucrats deciding what I can do for healthcare. I would support a less agressive bill that INCLUDED tort reform.

I hope your wife gets the care that she needs.

      Best Wishes

Unlce Dunk, I have champ va insurance , ran by the VA no one wants to take it we need to access more people to medicaid and get illegals out of it. Champ VA is for disabled veterans families it pays nothing as Medicaid does which covers vision and dental which is also denied to our seniors on medicare. We need to use what we have for our people such as you and your wife. This is so unfair . We do not want more government waste set up to put our seniors in limited programs.our veterans families have no insurance it covers very little. we are accepted by very few physicians .Politicians lie and the VA is government ran and I can tell you first hand how poorly it is ran.

    Damn

halleluiah! And all the smucks, young revolutionaries and union memembers { & I am one} who believe this is going to be fair and a freebie, well. lol Wake the hell up. For if they think all will be equal than I have a bridge to sell them. Not to mention the 1/2 bill in Medicare cuts the will take place immediately. But the dreamers march on blindly. Great write keerp them coming.Oh & those lawyers that are in the pockets of those house dems. You think they will allow TORT to take place?

    • Thank you for reading and commenting Bob. I am glad you enjoyed my satirical rant. The debate reminds me of the woman from Florida who thought her car payments were going to be made by Obama if he got elected. I don't hate the guy, but I don't agree with him politically.

Tort reform? Of course it won't happen. I do recall that Democratic candidate Jonathan Edwards was a tort lawyer. Those in power on either side do not want this to happen. That is why it is not tied to the health care bill. Having dealt with laws and regulations for my entire professional career, I think that most of them are written with the idea of making more money for lawyers.

Great poem Mike you always speak out for what you believe in and I adimre that But since I live in the UK and we have had an NHS since the 40s I dont understand this whole argument. I have grown up with the NHS and the thought of paying for when I'm ill is just maddness to me, but hey I dont live in the US and I dont fully understand what is going on, but I am very interested in this debate and I enjoy hearing both sides. I cant believe that Obama and this issue of an NHS has split the US so much, fansinating stuff Best of luck in the contest

    • Jade, we have a broken system. Looking at the UK and Canadian systems there are useful componants and things that, from a US perspective, could use fixing. As I live on the Canadian border I know more about the Canadian system that the UK system. I find that Canadians are very defensive about their vaunted system, but if they talk amongst themselves they complain alot and they flock across the border for care they cannot get in the US.

Anytime you get government involvement there is bound to be waste. Government employees are nearly impossible to chastise or fire. Customer service is dismal. The idea that government, which is inherently wasteful, is going to eliminate wast and pay for the system is laughable. I tend to be for small government with less regulation, rather than large government with more regulation.

The biggest thing that would improve our country would be tort reform that limits the amount of money that people could recieve in lawsuits. However, since many of the people in government made their money that way, this type of reform is unlikely. Limited cash liability tied to a requirement to fix the problem would be one way to fix the problem.

Keep it the same, change it and tax us more. Either way it will still be a crappy system through the near future. The question is, what kind of imperfect system is the best improvement over the current system.

The Stars and Stripes, Old Glory, has changed her face 26 times ( source Readers Digest) if she changed it to 27 there would be less illegal immigrants, more taxpayers, would there not? Wasn't a major part of Colorado bought from Mexico?

Your stance on the Great Senator's Perspective was a tad lost on me for I've watched countless documentry's about Americans queueing in the dark of night for free medical opinions along with thousands of others...men...women...children...people with several types of cancer...people that insurance companies won't insure...

God Bless Obama for trying to ensure that everyone receives equal medical care, of course it still has to be paid for, why is anyone concerned that the government agencies are paid and not the agencies that promote hugely inflated pharmaceutical properties? Why are so many generic brands outlawed? If you look at the shares/profits for these companies you will see who has a stranglehold on the sick and just why Americans are held hostage to its present system of lauded healthcare. Who is profiting? Are the sick getting better quicker under this system and therefore saving money or are they sick of paying more?

If you paid more in taxes to the Government but at the same time less to private healthcare wouldn't you be covered better by a blanket of care that also covered your rights? Everyone that has boo-hoo-ed the Presidents suggested precedent has laid a path to step backwards by filling the pockets and portfolio's of private shareholder's or is a shareholder.

Voting for his ideas was not taking away the right to still pursue private healthcare either, the only people left without a choice are those that are and will still be queueing in the dark hoping for humane charity whilst those shouting and spouting 'bout their choices will still be free to call in their private insurance companies and or pay separately for private treatment themselves.

    • Illegal immigration has to be dealt with firmly and fairly. Personally I find that a majority of the illegal immigrants I have come in contact with are harder working than a majority of the 'out of work' citizens.

I do not stand up for the insurance companies. They are a national scandal and so are the lawyers that drive up health care costs through settlements with the mere threat of a lawsuit. No one in this country who shows up at an ER can be legally turned away.

If you are talking about making preventive medicine mandatory you and I have a fundemental difference in opinion. I don't feel that I need a government nanny. I have worked in government and generally have a very low opinion of the quality of the average employee. Service is terrible. Why would I want that in my healthcare?

I am firmly of the opinion that I am at least as smart as the average government hack. I prefer to have a choice on how I spend the small amount of money that the government leaves me with.

Your opinions and comments are much appreciated.

You tell em! hehe I'll hold my comment as far as pertaining to the 'topic' of this poem (cause I'm not really sure about that issue yet) ..but I will say you have done a great job as always Gotta love your satire, humor and wit

    • I think the concept is very well intentioned and I despise the available insurance company options however there are very few government run agencies that are not filled with bloat and waste. The most important things to remember are that:

      1. There is no such thing as FREE healthcare.

      2. The figures are actually closer to 8.9 mil. people this trillion dollar plan will cover, not the 37-49 million figure that is being tossed around in the press.

There has to be a better way than creating one more bloated government institution to waste and graft. Thanks for reading and commenting.
