I start awake,
Shadows stream across the wall
Across the ceiling and lean
Tentatively down towards
The bed.
Stifling screams I clutch at air,
You are not there again.
Where are you? I beg the shadows
For the answer that I know
Already.
They no longer seem hostile,
They welcome me, singing a
Siren song of abandoned love
And broken hearts.
I smile.
