Mama Africa was making poets
In her kitchen one day.
She was feeling talkative.
“Making poets is tricky”
She said.
“They need imagination,
A little,
But you get too much
And they’ll spend their days
In the nut house.
They need a little anger.
Just the right amount.
You put in too much
And they kill somebody.
Put in too little
And they kill themselves.
Careful with the happiness!
Too much happiness
And they never sit down
Long enough to write anything.
Not too much sadness though
Otherwise they never get out of bed
Or out of the bottle
Long enough to write any thing either.
Opinions?
Oh yes child lots of opinions
And faith? Yes
They need a lot of faith
But you shouldn’t put in to much hope
It will cause the mix to spoil.
And love?
Well maybe a little
But less than they need.
It’s what makes them poets."

I absolutely love this poem. This is filled with the most well woven truth I have read in a long time. I especially loved the last lines because I believe it is what every poet needs to hear. Thanks for the absolutely wonderful write, it deeply touched me
It is deserving of the gold
