she knows

as sure as she recognizes the brown center
of a black-eyed susan

or the pull and pill of blue knit

first he will blame himself
and
later her

i say

things are not as they seem

stone fields
never empty

the river never rises

and in maggie's version

the canary
died of natural causes

    'stone fields

    and the ending is brilliant.

multi-facets everywhere! this is a good poem; especially liked the link back from the last stanza to the title, wraps it up nicely.

we only acknowledge and comprehend the entirety of what our previous experiences allow us to..everyone views everything differently because no two people have lived the same history. at the same time sometimes our minds like to warp these situations so that they work out in our favor lol. that has always fascinated me, you articulated it beautifully.

Isn't it ironic that everyone's idea of what actually happened is different? And isn't it wonderful that we are not all the same, for conversation would be moot to say the least. lol....I think the canary probably died of boredom, little cages do that you know C

It's funny (as in "ironic") have some seem to have such selective memories. I went through a period like that, where my every thought was questioned, since THEY didn't remember it that way. I always wondered where they were at the time. Brilliant, of course, Scribe. Good luck in Elora Danon's contest, Sweetie.
