You know that feeling when you buy a box of Cracker Jacks
And you don’t even want them, you just want that
Decoder Ring,
But then, instead of the awesome Decoder Ring,
You get a sticker?
Just some stupid, lousy sticker?
I do.
I am that sticker.
I’m a lousy sticker
When he wanted a Decoder Ring.
I’m a white, “Participant” ribbon,
When he wanted to win the blue one.
I am a thirty dollar gift certificate
In a raffle for a cruise.
I’m a brunette,
When he’d rather have a blonde.
I’m tall and curvy,
When he wants short and thin.
I’m tough and smart,
When he wants prissy.
But he’ll take me anyway,
For a little while,
Until something better comes along.
I wish I were a Decoder Ring.
A blue ribbon,
A cruise.
Someday, I’d like to be something,
Someone’s idea of a win.
Anything…
but a consolation prize.
