Freedom
Is my ability
To love, hate, and live
To tolerate
Gong beyond the rules of just
“Live and Let Live”
It’s my right to be happy
My right to be mad
My right to stand up
Whenever I’ve had-
Revelation that something is not right in the world
To defend myself whenever a fury’s unfurled
On my culture
My beliefs
My community
Or life
My ability to choose
Between a man
Or a wife
And to not have someone else, dictate my choice
To have my opinions, my values, my voice
My right of religion
To believe what I may
And your right to disagree
With all that I say
We do not have the right
To take the life of another
No matter how badly t hey may’ve done you wrong
No matter how strongly you think they don’t belong
They are still someone’s sister, father or mother
Still someone’s friend, companion, or brother
We all have the right to have family and friends
The right to be loved, until our grave end
To disown our relatives
And then start to being
Forming our self-chosen
Family of friends
We have the freedom to be straight
The freedom to be gay
Transgendered, bi-curious
Or to swing both ways
The right to be Buddhist, Muslim, or Jew
To be Christian, or pagan.$
The right to renew
Our faith in God
Or to believe in none
Our right to believe
We’re the only ones
Without our freedoms
We could never be
The people we feel
We were all meant to be
Limitations of choice,
Silencing our voice,
Taking away our rights,
And blinding our sight
Deprive us
Of the benefits
Of Freedom…
So let every sex, gender, race
Let every height, weight and face
Come hand in hand
Throughout the land
From the western plains to the eastern sands
Rejoice Together!
Lift your voice up high!
From every single mountain side!
Please let us bring a song to sing
Of Freedom Ring,
Let Freedom Ring!
